strategicprofits.com — We can argue until we're blue in the face why Obama won over McCain last week...Things like making cultural history...the sliding popularity of the previous Republican administration...McCain's controversial choice of Sara Palin as a running mate...they all hold water in this debate. But the BIGGEST reason was SOCIAL MARKETING.

Nice post on the power of social marketing and how it affects politics! Barack Obama was the first politician to tap in the Web 2.0 arena and he succeeded. He lead the way for more government transparency and the direct participation and empowerment of the voiceless and the left behind. Great analysis and from a marketing standpoint this is great lesson to be learned!

Interesting post that accurately analysis the social marketing tactics of both candidates with a heavy focus on the winner, Barack Obama. It will be interesting to see if the following now translates to more participation and if he will be able to engage his tribe over the next four years. He has a loyal following, but can he continue to engage them and inspire them to action. That remains to be seen.

I certainly agree with the social media marketing being absolutely huge. I would also say, though, that Obama's other great skill that got him elected was his tremendous ability to communicate and influence through his speeches. If he had not been as compelling an orator, the social media would have helped exposure, but I think the COMBO tipped the balance, even though there's intel to suggest that the US is still a sliver more right-leaning overall, and Obama is a fairly liberal Democrat. This combo overcame, nevertheless. Speaking and Social Media...that was the winning ticket. Take away EITHER one, and Hillary loses to McCain...perhaps (just a theoretical ;)
