howtostart.org — The biggest problem in America today is not George W. Bush, but he does give it a face. The biggest problem in America today is that the party line has been drawn over our lives, drawn down the center of the nation, drawn through our homes and families.

I wrote this to hopefully polarize and mobilize those who read it, but also to try to start some intelligent, non-partisan discussion. I hope you enjoy reading it but I also hope it pisses you off.

The MTV generation aren't the ones decieding who wins the presidential election. Remember Rock the Vote? Did nothing for Kerry.

Partisanship is not blindness. There's a lot of issues that I don't agree with the Democrats on. There's plenty of debate within both parties on the proper direction -- the Southern evengelicals and the urban stock traders don't agree on all policies of the republicans, but they cooperate in order to win elections and give them both some of the policies they advocate. I am a partisan Democrat when it comes to voting in national representation, but that doesn't mean that I'm not willing to stand up for my own beliefs within the party.Just because I'm partisan doesn't mean I'm an idiot or unwilling to think for myself.

The problem with America is that we no longer have a common goal. When we founded and our forefathers wrote the constitution there was also huge division--there wasn't a concensus on a single issue except providing for liberty and the pursuit of happiness (even then much division on the issue of slavery) We have given way to much power to the federal government which is exactly what the forefathers warned us against. The federal government cannot possibly be all things to all people so our individual representatives are scrambling to take whatever pork they can back home to try and appease their supporters. We need to all take a refresher course on the history of our democracy and fully understand our constitution. Our federal government is not responsible for education, healthcare, regulating corporations, and such. Local and state governments are. People living in New Jersey have different priorities than people living in Arizona.

Divide and conquer. Classic strategy. Can't believe everyone is falling for it.

@Dewhead: So what are you suggesting exactly, that it's evil to fund anything that anyone thinks is morally wrong? That's interesting that you should suggest that, given that the current US man-of-god president has taken the nation to war in iraq for no reason that can be discerned (and certainly no clear reason that he's willing to admit to). I don't think jesus would have gone to war. In fact, I think that jesus would be pretty pissed about this whole mess. Anyway, the second that you get a disease that stem cells can cure, you'll change your tune fast enough.

The problem with America is the weakness of the legal system further weakened by the White House which allows it to commit crimes and reduce privacy, civil, legal, and human rights. CEO's steal from and tank the companies they were hired to help. They pay highly educated operations people $14.00 with only a $1.00 raise a year. Thus America is still working but can't afford cars and houses. Outsourcing and slave labor overseas.Religions that ignore the scientific method.Junk food and soda which makes people dumb and fat. The FDA's failure to protect people.

Bush's' primary problem is that he's actually a centrist, not a conservative. Therefore, he works with both "sides" enough to royally anger the partisans in both parties. The US is unbelivably polarized and has been since the 70's. Consensus is just not possible in a country with such greatly separated world views. And any President who tries to bridge the divide will be torn apart for it. Better to be a partisan and lose than try to take the middle ground.

SuperAIDS? Uh... I don't screw around or shoot up, so I'd say that one doesn't bother me much.
