lafn.org — This chart shows every American how the Republicans are bankrupting America (while cutting every program they can get away with) and passing their debts to your children and grandchildren, and their children and grandchildren. It is based on data from the Bureau of Public Debt up to September 29, 2006, the last day of fiscal 2006.

Well if you want to look at it from a different view, this chart shows the increase in debt every year. You'll notice that the debt was always above zero, meaning, debt increased every year. So in reality, both parties are terrible at balancing the budget, but republicans are much worse. Debt should be going DOWN, not constantly going up. The only president in the past 30 years who seems to have been making any progress in attacking the national debt was Bill Clinton, but all that progress was wiped out thx to G.W. Bush. It's only a matter of time before the US economy collapses and drags the rest of the world down with it.

GDP and growing the economy does not fix the national debt if you never stop spending more than you borrow.

this is just factually wrong. Defense spending is no more than 5% of the Federal budget per year (in the worst year, including Iraq/Afghanistan), Social Sec and Medicare are a large and growing percentage of the budget (22% in 2006).http://mwhodges.home.att.net/fed_budget-a.htm

YES. I'd rather have some kind of optional insurance plan that people can choose from (what the Democrats are proposing) than a bunch of bombs and caskets (what the Republicans are proposing).
