I also read the Audacity of Hope, and my impression of Obama is he is a centrist. He is actually very conservative in some ways. He reminds me of the Bobby Kennedy type of Democrat in some ways also. I just hope he can live up to half the hype that was created during the campaign. From his past actions I feel he is a honorable, caring person and a natural leader. We could do worse.
What this country needs is a new direction, and Obama can give us that. He has proven he will not be biased based on political affiliation, but will listen to all points of view, filtering the valid points from the bogus ones. *THIS* is the problem the neocons and their venemous brownshirts have with him, he will not be a puppet to their failed policies like W was.
