makeuseof.com — Several times I’ve been called upon at a moment’s notice to troubleshoot a misbehaving PC system either at work or at a friend’s or relative’s home. Being the “go to” guy for these sorts of problems is both a curse and a blessing, but I guess that is besides the point.

Individual tools are good too. The trick is knowing what to use based on the symptoms observed. I have the UBCD, but more often than not I end up booting a particular tool based on what I've been told or noticed on the downed system.

I've been using system rescue CD for years ( http://www.sysresccd.org )...one of the reasons I have stuck with them is regular updates to the latest linux kernel, hardware support and the ability to boot from custom floppy images. I used sysreccd to create an image, store on a windows share, and pulled the image down to 30 identical PCs. Partimage is much better than MS RIS for imaging IMO since it doesn't care about the kernel version or differences in hardware - a helluva lot faster too.

Yes, I use Trinity Rescue Kit (TRK) all the time. I especially use it for systems that are infested with viruses; it makes a great antivirus boot CD so I can disinfect the system and get it up and running again.
