theonion.com— The Onion had a preposterous story about Roy the Forklift driver becoming a media darling of the conservative movement.

Oh God, I didn't realize I was corresponding with a right-wing fringe lunatic who has no idea what they're talking about.-That PLO spokesman is Rashid Khalidi. John McCain is chairman of the International Republican Institute, which gave grants up to half a million dollars to Khalidi's Center for Palestine Research & Studies throughout the 1990s. So if this guy is this anti-Semetic monster, John McCain funded him.-Obama's votes of "Present" in the Illinois State Senate were protest votes. He voted "present" 129 times, which accounts for 3% of his legislative career in Illinois. http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/how_many_tim ...-John McCain has received endorsements from men who called the Catholic Church "the great whore." He is also friends with anti-US radio hosts that were terrorists decades ago and plotted to kidnap and murder people.-And Obama's not a Muslim, you're just a right-wing nutjob and/or troll who I am done conversing with because you're misinformed and flat-out wrong. Come back when you have actual issues to discuss.
Here's to The Onion. If this election season brings us nothing more than a bad expectations hangover, at least it has reinforced the relevance of this zeitgeistic gem. Timeless; self-fulfilling prophecies abound. The Onion is a true American treasure. Here's to Issue 37-03, the first time I laid eyes upon an emerald green kiosk: http://www.theonion.com/content/index/3703. Yes I'm drunk, marked by the news anchor tone imagined in my head as I type this.
hivoltage815:You wrote 'Second, what do you mean "let me keep stealing from children."'Simple: If the government spends more than it takes in through taxes, it has to borrow money to make up the difference. Someone has to pay back the borrowed money, with interest. That "someone" is the generations that will succeed us -- the children. "Third, you talk about national debt. Are you not aware that Obama's proposals are going to increase our budget deficit by hundreds of billions. So are McCain's. It is nice to see that you agree raising the national debt in order to give tax breaks is not a good idea. Yet you think Obama has the right policies...I am confused."You, of course, are oversimplifying. We are spending $10billion per month in Iraq. Getting our troops out of there sooner will free up over $100billion per year. It will also put thousands of reservists back into higher-paying private sector jobs where they will be contributing to the GDP and spending more money. By focusing tax cuts on the working classes and the poor, Obama is giving money to people who will spend it on goods and services quickly. That will boost the economy, leading to hiring, higher wages (supply and demand -- fewer unemployed workers means higher wages), and more income tax revenue at the federal, state, and local level. I'm not of the opinion that our highest calling as a nation is a reduction in taxes. It's easy to talk about "useless programs implemented because of lobbyists and special interest groups", but just what are these programs and what do they cost? Is there universal, or practically universal agreement that the programs are "useless"? Far too often, "useless" really means 'programs that don't directly benefit me.' John McCain told said that he can save $100 billion a year "immediately" by eliminating the so-called earmarks in bills. Yet experts say that earmarks make up far less than $20 billion and that many of those would be funded anyway using the more conventional, and cumbersome, budget process. Reagan eliminated various programs that were designed to help inner-city kids do better in school. And, shock of shocks, in a few years, the crime rate skyrocketed. It's far too easy to talk in generalities, but the fact is that we have one of the lowest tax rates for any developed nation in the world. So why does it have to be even lower?
