newsfactor.com — If, hypothetically, all U.S. cars ran on 100 percent corn-based ethanol, and if one Ivy League professor's analysis is correct, then 97 percent of the entire country's land area -- including real estate now occupied by cities -- would be needed to grow corn.

First of all learn how to spell, or at least learn how to cut and paste in to Word so that it can correct your spelling. The correct spelling is "Biodiesel".Second, there is also a huge future in Biodiesel.Third, this article assumes that THERE WILL BE NO TECHNICAL INNOVATION IN ETHANOL FEEDSTOCK. The guy who wrote it simply said "Oh, it takes x amount of cropland to make 1 gallon of ethanol from corn, therefore if the entire surface of the US were cropland it would only produce Y amount of our ethanol needs." The author needs to realize that it is likely that innovation will likely vastly improve the technology, as it has in countless other technologies in the past.

electric cars, with nuclear power plants are our long term viable alternative.they have no by product besides spent fuel rods, which you can dispose of by digging a whopping great big hole in a geologically stable area, and filling in with concrete.

hydrogen can be made by water electrolysis. just fill every shoreline in the world with wind turbines and use the electricity to convert water. with luck, there'll be enough left to reduce the need for thermoelectric plants.

"Although, i think vertical crop-growing buildings aren't a bad idea (i believe Japan has one or two)..."Japan has zero, at last count. It's a what-if concept that they're promoting, but nothing more at this point.
