consumerist.com — Says Comcast. The moment of truth may be coming in the NFL Network/Cable showdown. This Thursday the NFL Network scored what is arguably the most interesting regular season game of the year (at least in the NFC): The 10-1 Packers vs. the 10-1 Cowboys. But, not a whole lot of people are going to be able to watch it outside of Dallas and Wisconsin.

Comcast just charges a slight bit over what the NFL wants from them.

Well, as long as the Super Bowl or every single game from now on isn't on Pay-Per-View or just the NFL Network...

The real issue is that cable companies and digital satalite companies don't offer alacart channels, you have to buy a whole package to get a single channel you want to watch. Pack in the 1990's my family had one of those "big" dishes that would catch the same signals that the cable companies and digital satalite companies re-distribute. Guess what we could do? We could pick and choose channels. It was great, since it was a completely different subscription service, we could purchase our channel selections for the whole year, We paid maybe $200 to $300 a year. Then you know what really great about it? There were a load of free channels we could watch too. For example: I live in Texas, but durring the 1996 atlanta olympics I was able to switch around from coverage from atleast half a dozen Countries. There were even channels offered on Cable that came thru free too, TechTv was free for example. The other really great thing I could watch over this mega dish, Feeds! When a show is syndicated or independant of a network (like Star Trek TNG was), the feeds are broadcast over a open channel days before it's intended airdate. Honestly, when I get done living in apartments and rental properties, I'm going to invest in one of these dishes if they are still available. I really miss being ab

It's really surprising to me how many people still have regular cable. Other than those who are renting their abode or those who just can't afford it, I can't figure out why anyone would choose cable over satelite. Maybe there's something I'm missing, but I just don't get it.
