tomshardware.com — It's time for a new CPU comparison using our newly developed benchmark suite. The most noteworthy additions are certainly the dual-core processors, but we have also added some new sections focusing especially on the platforms for AMD's Socket 939 and Intel's Socket 775.

Love Tomshardware. Recently upgraded my aging PC from an Athlon Thunderbird 1Ghz to AMD 64 3700+ Socket 754. I can say that DVD burning is super fast. Apart from that, really nothing that this new cpu does that makes anything else faster. If all you do is browse, check email etc. 1Ghz is more than enough. Heck, I used to even watch TV on my PC with the 1Ghz and it worked well. Granted its faster, window shading, thruview desktop etc. is faster but it was working fine before.

with all this trumpeting intel from tom's, im reminded of that video on their site where i saw an intel cpu, out of the box with stock cooling, was overheating and slowing itself down when running at 100%. all the while, an AMD chip at the same performance level runs like, 10-15 degrees C cooler. way to totally contradict yourself tom
