lewrockwell.com — Americans have long ignored the space program, only to have their interest momentarily reawakened by occasional news of yet another colossal failure, or announcements of grandiose plans to send people beyond Earth's orbit.

Some small-minded people just have no faith in the human spirit. Were it not for our space program, we would not be sitting in front of personal computers, sniping at each other. Had the naysayers prevailed throughout human history, we would still be living in caves, because it would cost too much and take too much effort to build mud huts.

It's not whether or not humans should go into space, it's how to pay for it. Do we stick a gun at your head and force you to pay (or you point a gun at me to pay for it) or do we let people who think it's a great idea pay for it voluntarily. That's far different from what you are saying. You mistakenly believe that the only way to do something is through government programs. If you would just check out the government's record on such things, you'd find it's mostly just corporate theft by buying off politicians.Do you like paying for wars, like in Iraq? Well, don't forget, the same players who work at NASA work for the DEPT of Defense. In addition, if NASA weren't getting in the way, we probably have already had lots more space activity. Consider the difference between the designs of Burt Rutan. For every dollar NAsa takes in, they waste 9.99 of it. And I know because I work for them sometimes. If the government had been involved in the distribution of power 100 years ago, we'd be a country full of DC power transmission lines because Edison would have had more political clout than Tesla.

DC power lines sound good to me. It certainly would have saved a lot of lives. And don't give me that hooey about paying for the War in Iraq. I vote AGAINST people who want to raise taxes. Taxes, after all, are what pay for the 95% of the unconstitutional things the government does. Want the government to stop paying for wars and the space program? Stop voting for people who will raise taxes. Repeal the 16th Amendemet.
