apod.nasa.gov — Inspired by the night skies of planet Earth in the International Year of Astronomy, photographer Larry Landolfi created this tantalizing fantasy view. The composited image suggests a luminous Milky Way is the heavenly extension of a country road.

Makes you realize how small and insignificant we all really are...

Those dots in the sky are actually stars...just like our sun! I know this because I am very interested in science and technology.

Can't believe people still repeat this same crap like it's still fashionable.No. We are not small nor insignificant because of the vastness of the universe. There's nothing to realize because there's no correlation. The gigantic scales of stars, of galaxies, of the entire universe, does not in any way diminish our kind and what we have. We are unique and special in another way. Stars consume its fuel to glow across the heavens. Stars collect to form galaxies. Galaxies collect to form the universe. But it is different with us in a way, yet the same in another. The atoms that make up our bodies and mind, were all once created in the very centers of stars. So as silly as it sounds, we are indeed children of the stars. This realization gives us a special place in the cosmos, for we are connected by processes that take place in the universe to this very day. But life is not the only special attribute that makes us worthy. Our intellect allows us to understand almost all the intricate processes that takes place in the cosmos. So in a way, the universe understands itself - through us. I'd say that's as special, if not far more special, than a meaningless bunch of atoms and molecules undergoing basic nuclear reactions.

Hmmm, and maybe that's why I posted the part of the caption stating it IS a composite image?

@Bobby1978Bravo. Well said and without a single reference to a "creator".
