wylfing.net— This guy wrote two extremely detailed analytical essays about the iconography and symbolism in Reloaded and Revolutions. Whether you loved or hated the movies, it's a fascinating read.

Am I the only one who thinks that the original Matrix movie bore an incredibly strong resemblance to Dune? Just a thought, as it seemed too blatantly obvious to me.
I heard a prominent Biblical scholar--who is an atheist that attends church services--say that the basic story of the Matrix was the gnostic story. The characters are similar albeit retrofitted to a cyberpunk theme. Actually Wikipedia says this about the Matrix (1), "The story makes numerous references to historical and literary myths, including Japanese director Mamoru Oshii's acclaimed Ghost in the Shell, Plato's Allegory of the Cave, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Judeo-Christian imagery about Messianism, Buddhism, Gnosticism and the novels of William Gibson, especially Neuromancer"I studied this Movie in a Philosophy class. The professor pointed out some of these philosophies in the movie. So, if this is true the the Wachowski had a story framework to work inside. (I know virtually nothing about Gnosticism.)
