makezine.com — MAKE is contributing a few posts to the Holiday Gadget Guide for FM, we thought we'd be different and show kits and things you can build yourself... The first, is our MP3 player - Wouldn't it be great to actually own your music player? Like really own it? Building it from the ground up and being able to always improve it?

can you mount it?

I'd like to see this go foward as having those cheapo mp3 manufacturers using these designs and making nice units out of them, which would drive down the cost and level of entry. it'd also be nice if someone were to start selling a good case to mount the board in so there's something of a unified look to them if you want.

I would hope that vvvv was being sarcastic, and if he was, that was a funny comment :)

I'm with Samsite. Hard to see the point and...No FLAC.. no Ogg.. no digg. And whoa...pricey.

Two on them!I've an iRiver, but it's fairly chunky. I'd love to have a small SD card-using Ogg Vorbis player.Ogg Vorbis is more versatile too - it's great for spoken word even at low bitrates, as well as music at higher bitrates.I have something in the region of 5000 tracks in Ogg Vorbis all at 160kbps. I f**king LOVE the Vorbis codec!

Haha. The source code has some fun little easter eggs. Namely this one:}void king_of_france (char message){
