Apple does fix security problems with critical updates. They fixed the BIND vulnerability this week.. but that was 2 weeks after the fix was available for Ubuntu Linux. Some Apple software has regular free updates (like Safari, Xcode) - but most OS software is only updated with paid upgrades. For example: OS 10.5 has Python 2.5, 10.6 will have Python 2.6. It's annoying to not have the latest version - but it does provide stability. And you can still install a port system to stay current. The article mentions MacPorts - this is based on the BSD ports system and installs separately from the OS (in /opt). eg: I had MacPorts install Python 2.6, Mercurial and The Gimp.
@ DivineMonkey, RE: " .. "Hey i got an idea.. lets put the window options on the wrong side... "Wow, your comment calls you out as someone who has very little knowledge of tech history. It was MICROSOFT that put the "window options" on the "wrong" side, since they developed Windows AFTER working with Apple to produce the first ever GUI version of Microsoft Word... running on a Mac, since Microsoft only had DOS at that time.
I think you're getting buried for assuming Mac users are less technically astute, not for using the *nix tag.In my first-hand experience, most of the Linux admins I know own MacBooks. In fact, (again, in my experience), when I come across someone with very little technical knowledge... almost 100% of the time it's a Windows user. Those users that know how to navigate around multiple OS usually have a better understanding of the differences, than those who only use Windows.Again, this is all from my day to day dealings with our clients and our internal consulting staff.

How about a real search?Spotlight just ignores a great many files, such as files inside packages. It also fails to fall back on plain-text search if it doesn't have an interpreter for a given file type. Not to mention the sheer stupidity of it not showing the path of each hit, forcing the user to click on every one to see WHERE it is, time after time.

Thanks but no thanks satcomer. Linux docks are very (VERY) tweakable right after installation ;)
