That part about "adding and subtracting" reminded me of people who try to cut their own hair, but keep making things worse and shorter when they try to fix it. Frank sucks. An architect cannot build a house and call a complete work of art without some decent landscaping. A building of business, sure, but not a house.

I prefer Fallingwater but the most influential is Farnsworth House: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farnsworth_HouseNot only did it have a large impact on architecture but design in general. You can easily imagine Steve Jobs living in it.

Finally someone mentioning the emperor has no clothes. Frank Gehry's buildings are pure s**t. There I said it. They are completely random, irrational forms. It's one thing to put random chaotic s**t on a canvas, but quite another to use actual resources to build functionless buildings. Gehry is the most overrated architect ever to have lived.

Who COULD respect that? He's a media favored architect. We're supposed to like him just b/c he's helping to deconstruct order in our society, like the modern artists Pollock, Picasso, Rothko, Kline etc. A few ads in magazines have shown those scribbles of his, and you're right they're informationless scribbles.

Paul Allen ought be ashamed of himself for having such low taste as to get Gehry to design it.

All these flat houses must leak! That's why we have angled roofs to begin with!

When talking about a "surface" the evaluation is always from the side the surface faces, just like the evaluation of color or texture. A grassy hill, for example, is green and convex even though it's something else below the surface.

That would be an insult to mullets!

Down with Gehry! To grant him the title "architect" is blasphemy and an insult to all other aspiring architects. He misses some critical parts in his design, which includes FUNCTIONALITY. A building's expected lifetime should be 50 years with minor repairs. If you've got leakage problems after a year, then perhaps making extraordinary extensions to an otherwise gaudy piece is the issue at hand here. Most of his mentioned "concepts" are far-fetched and epitomizes how this man needs an "aesthetic" building to cover up his incompetencies.
