One word of warning. (I've been using Ubuntu as my sole OS for 11 months now and LOVE it.) Before you upgrade - - BACK EVERYTHING UP. I had a problem with the GRUB of all things. SATA drives used to be /dev/sda1, etc, they got changed to /dev/hda1. You'd think firing up a shell and editing the GRUB config file would've fixed it but I had a series of cascade failures after that. That said. Gutsy is set to be amazing. Feisty was extremely stable for me, and Edgy was the same tho I used it for less time than Feisty. I'd highly recommend people give it a shot, even if it's just booting the live CD and trying to use it for a day.
I prefer Virtualbox. It's easy to install (the Virtualbox DEB for Ubuntu depends on two files, libxalan110 and libxerces27) and easy to configure. And it runs XP almost as fast as the real thing. In fact, you can install Tiny XP in Virtualbox and run Tiny XP faster than native Windows XP. When I get on dial-up on Ubuntu (I have NetZero dial-up as a back-up when my cable goes down), I have problems getting on AIM with the Ubuntu version of Gaim/Pidgin, but in a Virtualbox-running Windows environment, I can run the Windows version of Pidgin and have no trouble getting on AIM. That really helps out when I'm talking to my friend in New Jersey.
