The German version was called the "Krummlauf" or "Gebogener Lauf", depending on the source (crooked/bent barrel, creatively enough), and was an attachment for the StG-44 assault rifle (first of its kind.) It worked on the principle of bleeding off propellant gases from tiny holes in the bend, and was designed mainly to shoot out of tanks and APCs.A picture without the sight, poking out of an armored vehicle personal weapon ball mount:http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Waffen/Bilderseitenneu/Krummlauf-R.htmA more detailled link:http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=4685This site (hope your Polish is up to snuff) has pics of the Krummlauf's periscope sight:http://www.stg.online.pl/krummer.htmlThe Russians also experimented with a curved barrel on the PPsH-41 SMG:http://www.ppsh41.com/serge3.htmInterestingly, I've seen a link that describes a similar device developed by the Australian (!) army:http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1477906/posts (sorry for freeper link, but they do occasionally have good military stuff.) This is called the "Off Axis Viewing Device", and is an attachment for the F88 Steyr assault rifle.Funny enough, Corner Shot LLC is a US-registered company. Here's more detail:http://www.army-technology.com/contractors/machine_guns/corner_shot/
