nymag.com— I hate this show, and I think the authors (and its "adult" fans) are developmentally retarded. But its a good read, and it may give one insights about this slice of TV cultural Americana.

Watched the premiere episode. I know one can't judge a show by the 1st episode, but I already can smell the themes.Just like romance novels is porn for females, this show is porn for advertisers. Give the public what they want. Beautiful, underaged rich kids getting it on with each other, written like a formulaic soap opera. Its vapid, soulless, and no one gets anything intellectually, spiritually or culturally rewarding from it.Mind you, I come from the era of "Dawson's Creek", which was an exquisitely well written first season that went to hell. That was the genesis of the WB/CW's soulless, "TV for advertiser demographic" whorage. The formula was then cloned for "One Tree Hill", and the show who's name I can't even remember. And that's okay, I watch too much TV anyway.

Have you watched the show or do you just hate the idea of it? I'm not criticizing in any way, just curious.
