First off I believe annonimity is unintended consequence of the speed and viscousness in which a person can get flamed for saying something out of turn. Verifying the facts when one chooses to do so isn't that hard. What is more insidious are "journalists" or "intellectuals" or "scientists" presenting from their point of view what the facts are. They are to be viewed as unimpeachable sources when in fact all is filtered through one's point of view. Even historical "fact" is from the point of view of the winners.

It's more like trying to figure out what time it is by averaging the times of two wildly inaccurate clocks.

You can also go to fact checking sites. www.factcheck.org is good. PS Public television news is better.
