windowsdevcenter.com — After five years, Windows Vista is finally here. With a Mac-like interface, improved security, and far better networking, it's a great improvement over Windows XP. Like any new operating system, though, there are things you'll love about it, and things you'll hate about it.

so, without even reading TFA, the thing I hate most about vista is that it's trying to emulate a mac-like environment.Macs are for metrosexuals or, failing that, people who have way too much money to s**t out and want to feel special (in the short bus way, really). Also, networking issues? what the hell are you talking about? you disable windows firewall, and you're fine. If you know what you're doing networking with XP is a cakewalk. Our workplace uses PCI coprocessor cards with windows on a virtual machine, samba mounts unix home directories, and shares the same ip address and physical network port as the actual unix station itself without conflicts.bottom line is vista, is trash. First off they're trying to copy a graphically bloated OS, second, they're integrating way too much crap into a single package. Only perceivable reason I see to upgrade to vista myself is for DX10, because I'm a gamer, aside from my leisure activity, I see no reason to upgrade.

I have my XP shell set to cmd.exe. Makes for some cleaner gaming.

melkore, game performance should be unaffected by that. When the game goes to full screen at least, Vista suspends unnecessary graphics from other programs.

I've been using Vista for a couple of weeks and really like it, but my one big hate at the moment is the fact that explorer doesnt seem to be very customisable, I don't see a way to add buttons to the toolbar, and I really like a nice big fat Delete button on my explorer toolbar :( Anyone know if it is in fact possible?

"I don't think a company like MS would spend 5 years in R&D to "worsen" their flagship product..."you would be surprised at what MS would do to make more money

"by elnerdo 40 minutes agoThe thing is, nobody BUYS just an operating system. They buy a 400 dollar Dell computer that comes pre-loaded with Vista on it, instead. The price will not affect their sales at all."I have almost NEVER purchased a system that came with an OS. I always build my own computer and purchase the OS separately. The only exception was the Dell laptop I purchased earlier this year, and the first thing I did was fdisk and format the hard drive, then install my own copy of the OS that I wanted. Don't use statistics that you cannot backup. Words like "nobody" are dangerous to use, as "somebody" will always be able to contradict you.
