I don't think Carson was that bad - he just had 2 shockingly poor defenders in front of him and a slightly off the pace Sol Campell - but now his England career is over before it even started...
I think the people calling for a reduction in the number of foreign players in the premiership are barking up the wrong tree. What we need isa) More English players playing in OTHER countries (whilst at the peak of their careers). If the players are all in the Premiership you get a lack of experience of different styles of play and a conflict of interest - "my worst enemy at club level is supposed to be my partner for my country". It's got to be difficult.b) More youth development and training facilities to get kids aged 6-16 interested in the game and developing their skills.c) Language and cultural training to give those kids the vision and ability to search the whole of Europe (and beyond if needed) for clubs to take them on.And, most importantly, IMHO we needd) A more supportive press. You've tried the stick for as long as I remember, why not try the carrot for a change? Be supportive of the team when they fail and praise them when they do well. Create a positive atmosphere, without the ludicrous burden of expectation that you place upon them every time. Then, when they go a goal down in the first 15 minutes, they don't all start thinking (in the back of their minds) about the dreadful headlines that will follow, they just play on with a freedom of expression that creates suchhgood premiership action week-in and week-out. In the past three world cups England have lost to Argentina on penalties (after Beckham's moment of madness got him red carded); lost to Brazil (who went on to win the competition) and lost to Portugal on penalties after another red card incident. Not that bad a record...
Face it boys, they technical ability of your average English player is piss poor. We so much on the physical and athletic side of the game that we only do well when the players are fired up. If our players had the neat passing skills of continental sides we wouldn't be in this s**t. Croatia played keep ball for about 5 minutes before hitting the 3rd goal. I know the manager wasn't the brightest spark, who drops the regular goalkeeper for a kid in the most important game? But no manager will achieve success until changes are made at grass roots level.

Not going to happen. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/internati ...Not that I blame him considering the stench of concentrated bulls**t emanating from Soho Square of late. I just hope they actually put some thought into it and get someone who knows what he's doing instead of making another illogical panic hire like McLaren.
