@BGFelteninkCall me crazy, I thought the comments page was for COMMENTS. Not just "lol thats awsome lolz."I dugg this story because it's a pretty cool picture, but I fail to see how two concentric circles can be defined as "the eye of Sauron."Do you want to justify this to me, or do you want to digg me down and attack me for not automatically praising everything on Digg?
I am Tesladownunder. Glad you all (mostly) liked the photo apart from the breast fetish guys. The photo turned out really well and only took a few hours modifications to my 4 inch TC and an hour of setup and shooting. I take about 5000 photos a year of which 1 in 10 - 20 makes it to my site. I do a lot of long exposures in low light situations. Even though this makes it look more dramatic than it is in real life, a running Tesla coil is still dramatic. If you don't think so, get closer. I am about 5 feet away with an earthed object in front of me so "fairly safe".Yes I stood still for 22 seconds. No bugs were harmed in the shooting of this photo. The photo did not even have to be exposure adjusted or cropped as I got these right during setup. Definitely not photoshopped. I can show you the out takes if needed. I have added a 6MP version to my site for wallpaper - feel free to use.I have plans for a really good photo with more universal appeal. I am gathering stuff and constructing this weekend. Cheers, TDU
Colour is pretty accurate. Streamers from the TC are that colour. I look very red and yellow but am lit by a 15W incandescent bulb run at reduced voltage so yellowish. And the point of Tesla coils? Virtually none from a physics point of view. But ... they have given me local and international recognition (13,000 website hits in 3 days), have won me a $2000 camera, and given me a lot of Brownie points locally in the physics/science museum community. My kids think it is cool as well.I enjoy making stuff that hasn't been done on the web before or as well. Other things from my site that have some claim to be best on web (or best photo on web) include Tesla coil from microwave parts, can crushing, exploding wires, magneto-hydrodynamic model boats, water stream Jacobs ladder, high speed spark photography, Marinov motor underwater, high voltage and Ferrofluid, Magnetic levitation display, Lifter display, magnetic sensor array, alcohol flamethrowers, spark in liquid nitrogen, water traveling uphill etcSo it really depends on your perspective as to what is the point. I would never have got the same recognition in my job.TDU

The Eye of LRon. Tom Cruise has one in his basement. They could have used this in The Prestige instead of CGI.

A friend of mine and I built a large tesla coil and a suit (from home depot parts) like this about 10 years ago.. http://www.teslasystems.com/images/gallery/tesla-coil-suit-1.jpg

Add some fat MetaRam 8GB sticks (plant 16 of 'em judicously because you got 32 slots.Virtually none from a physics point of view.I want to lear everything about Tesla because it's amazing.Thanks,http://www.onlineflashgames.orghttp://www.bid-directory.net
