Right... you left out a step. Where are these small time farmers going to get the land they previously sold to the big companies. It's not like the big companies are going to just sell it back to them as long as they're making money (and they still will even without subsidies). While we should probably eliminate most of the subsidies that we currently have, it's not gonna fix anything.
Funny, my sociology professor from almost a decade ago said that my generation would see a food cost/supply crisis within the next 10 to 20 years... I didn't believe him at the time....
I just bought land that was owned by a ranch. Which means it was covered in s**t. Now it's prime growing for me. My dad bought what used to be a landfill. He stills find old coke bottles in it. Oh yeah, his tomatoes are really good.
THIS IS A BUSH/GOP LIE!!! Just like the GOP blamed the chinks for high gas prices by driving up demand when in reality, he destroyed a major oil producer (Iraq) and continues to threaten another (Iran). That is why gas is $4 a gallon! And it doesn't help that the US Dollar is worthless thanks to an $11 trillion national debt (translation: Latin American currency). Now he wants to blame the meager ethanol production for causing a run on food prices??! The token amount of corn used to produce ethanol is just that - TOKEN. It's not just food! Delivery trucks have to pay four times as much for gas now compared to 5 years ago! Who delivers the grain to feed the cchickens and cattle? Who ships the meat to your grocer? This is more Bush GOP propaganda for the stupid idiots who want to blame environmentalists!
Keep believing in the Republican lie. How much corn was used to make the fruits and vegetables which have jumped in price? It's the $4 gas per gallon, stupid. Everything has to be shipped - the grain to the farmers, and the processed food to you and me. Yes, you need trucks to hip it. Trucks need gas. Get it yet, stupid?

Yeah, I'm sure that'll sustain us for, oh, maybe 10 minutes... Thanx!

That is true- if you factor preparation into the equation, then you can make basic healthy foods last longer than the crappy stuff like TV dinners.
