I'm glad I live somewhere where credit card usage is pretty rare. Debit cards are the rule, and the fact that you have to _have_ money before you can spend it is as normal as gravity. The other thing is credit rating is not something that is used for anything except credit cards themselves, and I think about 1% of the people even know that it is, let alone know what rating they have (most have none).

@tech42er: I got the 6-7k figure from the College Board web site. In the southwest and midwestern areas of the US I'm familiar with, that's not too far off, but you're right; the better and more prestigious state schools are still in the 10-15K range, even in the less expensive regions of the nation. So regardless, a minimum wage job isn't enough to cover tuition and living for a college student.
