Based on what mythbusters determined to be the terminal velocity of a penny (around 55 mph, from the penny off the empire statebuilding myth) A penny dropped into that hole would take, oh, roughly 8 minutes to hit the bottom. 8 minutes! Can you imagine sitting there waiting for the sound to come back (imagining also that this was feasible)?
