It's amazing how long this has been kept from the public consciousness. You still hear people referring to the USS Cole as the worst non wartime attack on an American ship. And many of these are educated people who should know better.

Israel did not goof. This was a massacre of US servicemen by the Israeli government. The story is too long to fit into the attention span of your average American, but if you want to try, get the story from the men that were aboard the USS Liberty when it was attacked by the Israelis, with napalm, torpedoes, and strafed even to its lifeboats.<a class="user" href="http://ussliberty.org">http://ussliberty.org</a>
