blog.scifi.com — The Gravity Bookshelf is a piece of furniture with a design that you'll love or hate, but either way you can't deny its inherent practicality. By bending the plywood shelves so they appear to be coming out of the floor, designer Leo Kempf ensured that any books (or, say, DVDs) that you put on it won't fall over, with no need for any bookends.

Interesting, but impractical because:1.) Lots of wasted space2.) When a book is de-shelved, all of the books above it will slide down and take its spot. To keep it in alphabetical order, you have to push all of the books back up to make a slot with enough room!Give me the traditional rectangular case any day -- I've got so many books there's little choice! :D

"Gravity Bookshelf uses one of the four fundamental forces"I am pretty sure that every bookshelf uses the same number of fundamental forces. Maybe not...are there bookshelves in space?

http://www.smartfurniture.com/shop/catalog.designer.aspPretty cool website to design your own bookshelves. They don't come out of the ground, but they aren't made of plywood either. It's a trade off.
