I'm an apple fan, but you gotta call them out when something's bad.

Laptop cooling pads won't help you sport. The metallic strip just above the function keys scalding hot & the cooler pad won't be of help there. And anyways, Apple doesn't sell any laptops; just Notebooks!

For the price, Apple *shouldn't* have any problems at all.

I'm the same way, bought the macbook pro a week ago and so far am blown away by the power of this machine and have no complaints except for how hot it gets on the outside. The CPU temp stays around 50° which isn't as bad as my imac, which I also don't have many problems with, but the CPU hovers around 70°. As for the dead pixel prob, try this tip:http://www.wikihow.com/Fix-a-Stuck-Pixel-on-an-LCD-MonitorI found it works with a dry cloth too (I think the static buildup on the cloth actually helps, just don't get it TOO staticy or chance frying your machine).

Of course you can build a machine that has the same/similar specs and is significantly cheaper than a laptop/notebook, BUT that machine isn't portable, isn't 1" think, doesn't have a 4-6 hour battery, requires 5-7 cables (DVI/VGA, display power, computer power, speaker input, speaker power, and maybe mouse and keyboard [BT?]), requires more than 85W (computer, display and speakers), requires a few minutes to move instead of a few seconds, etc.Don't compare desktops to laptops/notebooks !!

Without any indication of frequency of faults, promoting a list like this for any product is irresponsible. In the case of this article, the technical accuracy of some of the assumptions (such as the cause of the battery swelling) is debatable.

I would be glad to see a wiki that contained information (negative and positive) about a large number of different computers. Not just company approved marketing, but real information about whether it is a good machine or a piece of garbage that should be avoided. Information, whether it is good news or bad, is not something to get mad at and try to suppress. We should be striving to have as much information about everything as we possibly can. Not just things we already agree with.

I've never had any problem with a Dell, Toshiba or any other brands than Apple. My 2-month old MBP got black dots all over the screen. Fan's noise sounds like a muscle car. It sure heats my entire room in Winter. Oh, the paint on the touch pad button is fading away.Basically Apple installs substandard parts in their computers. There is no way one of the fans broke in 2 months. My 3-year-old Alienware Area-51 7700 is still in perfect order, and the prices of both are comparable.f**k APPLE! THEY NEVER f**kING CARE!
