washingtonpost.com — The top editors of the China Youth Daily were meeting in a conference room last August when their cell phones started buzzing quietly with text messages. One after another, they discreetly read the notes. Then they traded nervous glances.

seacow - There are different dialects of every language, not all of which recognized by free translation software. Hence, thexder's comment "Babelfish speaks Spanish from Spain not from Cuba."

As an adult who grew up practicing nuclear bomb drills in grade school (the whole duck and cover thing under the desk), the fact that so many young people making pro-commie statements and are enthralled with the idea of communism, so recently after the Soviet collapse, really scares the crap out of me. It also scares me that some people compare an American President to Nazis with a perfectly straight face.It scares me, because when faced with a threat, these same people will embrace it. How many people who are pro-communist own a rifle? How many of those people will pick up that rifle to defend America? None I bet, because they have no idea how truly great and different America really is from the rest of the world. Know why Cubans in Miami are hard core Republicans? They escaped the "socialist paradise" that is Cuba, and want no more of it.After tasting American freedom, nothing else will do.

@Ratteler "The Internet is Democracy. Why do you think our government is desperate to DRM it and "control" it."Actually, I'd be sooner to liken the nature of the Internet to Anarachy than anything else. This is because the Internet is without any sort of governing body to regulate content, of course ignoring any local government's ultimately futile attempts at censorship.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------And to all of the uninformed who claim China is under a "Communist government" and do not understand how that is an oxymoron, I'd merely like to state my position briefly without fully entering the flame war. Communism is a form of anarachy, simple as that. It is impossible to have a communistic society in which every person is equal where some have power over others, which is essentially what government is. Anarachy merely means "no government" and as such, the term is open to many possibilities (yes, to those who foolishly equate anarchy with chaos, a "chaotic" society is one of these possibilities).Because of this simple fact, it is impossible to have a "communist government", as the very term contradicts itself. As a depressingly small portion of the comments point out, none of the countries which are so often mislabeled as communistic states (again, OXYMORON) are anything like true communism: including China, Cuba, USSR, North Korea, etc. You know, when a country has a government with a dictator, we have a term for that: dictatorship. These countries are often closer to fascism than their blatanty misrepresented Communism labels.I'm not saying you have to agree with the ideals of Communism or even believe that it would work. But notice that you cannot say something would never work if it has never even existed before. For those in need of education, I recommend: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CommunismCheck out that first sentence!Oh, and to furthur illustrate what I said (I looked at these Wikipedia articles after writing my comment):http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communist_state

Paul Owen, just because ""Clique" doesn't sound like "click"." in your accent doesn't mean it doesn't sound the same in other peoples'. Haven't you got anything better to complain about?

"Biggest difference between Cuba and the US? In Cuba, nobody goes hungry and nobody is homeless."Cuba is just lucky to be located close enough to the equator. They can exist on a lower standard of living because they don't have to keep warm.

Inspiring article. Regardless of what communism is/isn't, I hope many of you realize the scathing system of censors China employs, and the ultimate censoring of freedom that it touts. I hope in the future the Chinese government understands that people should be allowed to have a voice in anything that they believe.

You can't have an internet and censor information. China's government needs to decide. ;-)
