flickr.com — The Brooklyn Superhero Supply Store in Park Slope is a front, an elegant sham and a beautiful hoax. The store itself is a cover for the 826NYC program, a nonprofit that offers free homework help to kids between the ages of 6 and 18.

There's an almost exact version of this storefront called "The Boring Store" here in Chicago. Looks like a big production on the outside ("nothing to see here" and "definitely not a spy store!"). They also help kids with their homework and have a tiny section at the front selling spy gear.

I am reminded of the late, lamented Villainsupply.com site which went down a few years ago. Archive.org still has a copy; http://web.archive.org/web/20020220030126/http://www.villainsupply.com/

http://www.HiredHomework.com/HiredHomework.com is an online service provider of homework auctions. Registered users can serve as Students and/or Tutors. A Student post an assignment and waits for bids. Tutors find assignments and post the amount for which they are willing to help complete the assignment. The Student selects the most attractive offer, and the selected Tutor completes the project by the specified deadline. Both users then rate each other for the quality of work received or given. Payment for the work is in the form of deposited funds. These funds are transferred to the Tutor when the Student has accepted the Tutors's work. The Tutor may then withdraw the funds or use them to post his or her own assignments.
