I've heard the one about the engagement ring too...Men would promise their lovers marriage to (you guessed it) get in their pants during the engagement and then leave them. After that happened a few million times, the chicks caught on and because they were a little bit pissed about it, began to require that the men show them proof that they really would marry them. Since money makes the world go 'round, they'd fork over a month's salary in the form of an engagement ring. Only once the ring was offered would the bride-to-be then offer up her virginity.Funny how that turned out...
