Why would he not let his engineers do it? I'm an audio engineer and producer and I know exactly how this bs technology works. In fact, we bought a top of the line plug-in for Pro Tools, and it was $89. We did a comparison to another one of our employees' autotuner, which was outrageously more expensive, and it sounded exactly the same (quality wise). In which there is no quality. There is no super secret way to do this. It's as simple as point, click. And that's how T-pain does it. It's not magic, and calling it such is an affront to the music industry.Also, you don't map anything out to a keyboard using a vocoder, you use midi.

It's Autotune. Autotune can be controlled three ways. 1. Automatically - set the key range2. graphically - draw in the note corrections3. by midi - controlled by midi keyboard (what T-pain does)The vocoder thing was the same lie Cher's producer was telling everyone.
You should totally tell the Gregory Brothers how pathetically bad this is compared to their work. Make sure you totally rip the s**t out of it in your email.. I think they'd really enjoy hearing just how utterly horrible it is compared to anything they've been involved in.
