The "business" reason they can't sell it here is they can get many times more for it later, here. Ford had no problems manufacturing and selling TANKS to Hitler in the beginning of the 20Th century either. Tanks our boys were killed with. Ford is a profiteering company. Fact is, if you are in business you aren't there because of your charity work. You are there to make a profit. However, that is the difference between 'big' business and the kind that actually make America work, the mom and pop places, do believe in giving back to their country and community. Big business isn't even called 'Big Business' any more. It's "Global Business". Ford supports what Ford believes will make it's market share and profit margins grow the fastest. Keeping Americans out of a market while we provide the materials, technology, manufacturing, labor and while we also Herve the need is a profit decision. But, it's also an image decision. And their image has changed significantly for me.
"...U.S. market remains relatively unfriendly to the fuel. Taxes aimed at commercial trucks mean diesel costs anywhere from 40 cents to $1 more per gallon than gasoline."One more reason to lower taxes!
Amazing, all the responses here hostile to Ford...none hostile to the People's Republic of California, the Northeastern states, the environmental lobby that owns them, or the US federal government using the trucking industry as a piggy bank. As usual government in its infinite wisdom can do no wrong, while evil corporations--you know, the ones that actually invent this stuff and risk the capital to make it a reality--are satan's spawn. I'm waiting for someone here to say the answer is more regulation; I'm sure it's only logical.
If we (the US market) are so in love with hybrids then why not produce a hybrid version of this diesel car. Heck, you might as well make it bio-diesel capable as well.

I guess Ford would prefer bankruptcy than investing 10-days worth of capital into something Americans are begging to buy. Yes, nuts!
