Good for you ChaosProfessor. Avoiding soda is one of the best ways to keep healthy, I kicked the habit of drinking it a few months ago myself.

http://www.centsible.net/groceries.shtml has an excellent listing of grocery stores websites in the US and Canada. You can check this for regional pricing differences, although I think prices are nearly the same across the board (although Jewel / Osco is always more expensive - as is organic food due to food subsidies.Going veggie is definitely healthier and cheaper, as well as better for the environment - I'm glad to see no meat on this listing.

I'm upset with this "doesnt' cost much more than white rice". What crazy city does he live in with super cheap wild rice and/or super expensive white rice..

uh... notice sagat said 5 not 3. 5 is bigger than 3. 5 for $1 is cheaper than 3 for $1. And the article said 19cents per banana. aka 5 for $1.

I would suggest a B12 shot too (or some eggs) or you'll get paralyzed and you know DIE. If you're going totally vegetarian (no eggs/milk). You'll have to do your research. Lots of trace minerals you might miss out if you just eat the "for starters" stuff that was mentioned. While I'm sure rmad knows this other stuff (hence using "for starters") I thought someone should say it more explicitly. I don't want anyone out there dying cus they read something on digg.

I think it's the subsidized farmers.

true, true, but if you mix brown rice, and beans, and lentils, and other grains, it can be just as cost efficient and tasty. I think this article is a good base. Next step I think is to address where people live and invite/challenge them to check out what's out there: bulk stores, organic stores, co-ops, farmer's markets, asian markets/ethnic, even discount and dollar stores. Take inventory and do a little math... food is abundant, at least here in the US, and the burbs, but even cities can accommodate a frugal health beast!

Yes, Cost does matter sometimes but not in the all the cases, As healthy body is the demand for the new generation, they shoul avoid the junk food as they contain high amount of fat and causes unnecessary health problem for the long time like obesity and other critical problems. One should take acai rachel ray as this is easily available in the market for the best price also.http://www.acaiberry321.com/rachel-ray-acai-berry. ...

most healthy ingedients are cheap, you just need to take the time to prepare it. Lazyness makes food more expensive. How much does a wholemeal muffin cost in a coffee shop? How many can you make if you make homemade wholemeal muffins?
