@hutch113:There is no such thing as degrees Kelvin. It's simply Kelvin. Zero Degrees Celcius, Zero Degrees Farenheight, Zero Kalvin. No degrees. Also, absolute zero is not the temperature at which "everything freezes" - everything would be frozen before you hit absolute zero. Absolute zero is the temperature at which no more heat can be removed from a body.
690Kelvin = 782 fahrenheit = 417 Celsius (rounded)Now, I've worked in front of 600 degree fahrenheit ovens.. while hot, I agree that it is not that hot.
Everything mentioned about tape here is accurate, but it also has its downsides. It's suceptible to different kinds of damage and deterioriates over time. It's also more difficult to retrieve information off of. With an optical format, you can choose to just set up a batch job to copy the data straight to the disc. That disc can then be placed in any machine with a compatible drive and the data dragged and dropped. Tape, at least in Windows (it's non-trivial to send relatively raw data to a st0 in Linux), is not accessible to the OS directly. And you'd still only be able to retrieve the data on a tape-drive equipped machine. It's not a huge issue, but it is a factor.
Will blue ray catch on?Why should I have to switch from my trusty 8 Track tapes to CDs? Can you imagine what would happen if you scrated one of those things? Besides i can hear my music just fine without all that clarity. And who cares if i can't jump right to a song? Compact dics will never catch on. People aren't that stupid.Well, i guess people are exactly that stupid and if you don't think Blue Ray will catch on, you are an idiot. It has already caught on. We are all sitting here writing about it and none of us even owns one yet. Its the way of the World. It will and should catch on.
Just buy a PS3, then you won't have to change formats, just use all your old Playstation 1 & 2 games, and only use DVDs. If you want to fall behind technology than dont try and drag other epople down with you.
