happened to look at the file names as the computer was being scanned at some point in time and noticed that the names seemed umm well disgusting.
No, you fools! Mr. Bukakke is the name of my boss--he's Japanese! We were working on an account for the Mayo Clinic! We booked Andy Dick to do a sock puppet and magic show for the kids! Lolita was the name of his assistant! The goat was for the magic show, I swear!bukakke_with_kids.jpgmayo_little_girl_and_Dick.jpgdick_lollipop.jpglolita_goat_magic.wmv

Interesting, so you download and save straight to DVD? How does that work? No saving to the hard drive in between and then deleting it? Make sure you really delete it. Oh, I guess saving it all on DVD is not so straightforward, is it?

OK read but dude is deluded. Best Buy is not not-evil because they gave you a job where you can talk to people, and they are not not-evil because they use buzzwords, and Geek Squad has never, ever had "a condensed army of the most computer savvy men and women the world has ever known", and he mentions that he was new to the job when he was asked to make a used machine appear new (and, by the way, to do this, he goes through by hand, even after a virus is found; why doesn't he just reinstall Windows?), which supposedly is after Katrina and due to keeping the employees of six destroyed stores on the company payroll, so how does he know that Best Buy was such a good place to work before? Maybe he's just remembering how stoked he was to spend a few hours outside of his basement.

i agree it is a huge violation of trust...not only are you invading their privacy, you are being paid to do a job, not snoop at what this person has in their personal folders. Just look at it this way, how would you feel if someone did that to you? I'd be pretty f**king pissed, and never use them again...

>_>;Why is there so much GS hate when most people admit they repair their computers themselves anyway? Really, it's no surprise that Best Buy and Geek Squad are businesses that want money. Maybe I need to get out and visit some other precincts so then I might get why people hate us so much. Basic law of demand- we wouldn't be 3181 dugg story if we weren't getting any sort of business. There are many days at my precinct where there is a constant line, not necessarily because we're slow, but because there are just that many people. We get plenty of good comments and a few bad, too ( "MY COMPUTOR WAS NOT FIXED"). And whomever wrote this article was definetly NOT following Geek Squad SOP. All computers are to be restored to original factory settings before going back to the manufacturer or being sold on the floor as an open box item. And a computer where it is obvious that it was incorrectly imaged at the manufacturer should be restored and instead sold as an open box item (as long as it is functional) to a customer knowing they're buying an open box (unless the current opts for the restored computer). And I know this because it's happened to me before. (3D mark '06 preinstalled on a new computer?! sw33t.) And when talking about repairs on old computers- one of our mottos is supposed to be "never restore". We've had crappy turn times before and almost all the heat we've received for it is from ourselves- and we're staying late and coming in early to get stuff done.Maybe it's just my store, maybe it's just my managers, maybe it's just my coworkers...I dunno. Also...when we're trying to defragment your computer and you have four or five huge, immovable files, we get curious. When it's IN YOUR ROOT DIRECTORY just floating about, of course we're going to look. When you specify "whatever you can find" in your data back up, yes, we will find your porn and probably back it up. When we're splitting your pictures to fit on discs and we notice tattooed old lady porn in with your pictures of your grandkids, some luls will be had. Same with horrendously bad amateur porn. It's there, we know it's there, and usually, it's weird. You got a virus some how. Anybody would be a liar if they said they weren't curious when "hot Brazilian sluts 4" was logged as an application hang in event viewer.

@punkdemonsso you take your car into the shop and it's got a book in the back, they're not stealing it, you brought it right to them.besides, stealing of the porn isn't even the real issue here. did you READ the article, or just the headline?

Like I said... Thank you, Best Buy, for turning the Geek Squad into a corporate ball of s**t. The Geek Squad used to be something to look up to, something to want to be a part of, something that meant status and knowledge and a sort of eliteness to it all, and now it's just another way for Best Buy to make money and that is all they seem to care about. Who cares if a customer's computer actually gets fixed? Sell them a brand spankin' new one so we can service the s**t out of it for another year and then sell them another one!! Right?? Because who really cares about keeping a system for longer than a year? People who enjoy stability or who fear change would LOVE to CHANGE every year or less! All because the Geek Squad recommended it? Well, sort of, but more so Best Buy can MAKE MORE MONEY! WOOT! Lame.

Well, it's certainly been longer than 6 months, and they're still kicking. But I think that people are beginning to think twice about going straight to the Geek Squad after the numerous scandals they've endured so far. When people think of 'Where should I go to get my computer repaired?' these days, they're much more apt to ask friends, look on Google for well-rated, local companies, or rely on services like Angie's List, Yelp, or Mojopages to find a company that's reputable.
