gamesradar.com— "We considered each year as a whole, looking at how many great games came out, just how great each was, and even how they play today. And our final results shocked even us."

Wow, this is a very well-informed list. I was at first shocked not to see any of the NES years, but when you think about it, the Nintendo was the sole system to dominate in that era. Perhaps a handful of good games were released for it each year. These guys were just spot-on especially with 1998 and 2005.Looking at those three yers 1997-1999 brings me back and makes me appreciate how awesome it was to be an avid gamer back then.
How could they forget World of Warcraft? Not one mention of the game. It completely revolutionized the MMORPG market, and with infinite replayability it currently hold 7 million souls. I mean, World of Warcraft tops the best selling games list TWO YEARS after it was released!
While I agree that 2004 should have been on the list just for Half Life 2, you can't ignore great games like Shadow of the Colossus and God of War in 2005. I haven't played Resident Evil 4 yet, but I have been hearing from everyone that its amazing. (Reminds me that I really need to pick up that game.)

If this is North America-specific, where is 1985? The year that started the rescue of the videogames industry after the crash.

They credit Robotron to the Atari 2600. The 2600 didn't even have a home port of that game. No digg.

I loved Ocarina...but Final Fantasy VII makes a tough argument.
