I've got a question for the all of you that seem so pissed at Chris Hansen. Prior to this post on Digg I'd never seen the show, although I'd read about it in the paper. While I think it is, like all tv, a circus put on for the entertainment of the viewers... I'm failing to see why exactly people are so pissed at Mr. Hansen. Yeah he does come off as kind of a smug jackass in just the clips I watched today but so what? He's talking to people who have show up to f**k minors. How exactly would -you- talk to a guy you know just walked through the door with a six pack in his hand and thinking he's going to f**k a 13 year old boy he met on the internet?

I also found the last one painful to watch. The thing is, that the punishment for his acts go beyond what the law states. In effect, this guy has his reputation ruined and is humiliated in front of millions. Sure, you might say, that is all he deserves. But I always wonder where it stops. What if one day thieves become the new predators for Dateline? Will you still be so sure that they deserve this kind of punishment? In my opinion, the justice system is there to apply proper punishment to criminals. It is not Dateline's responsibility to do this. And no matter what the crime, I always believe that every person deserves dignity. I like to believe in a justice system that is better than these crooks.

With a world population over 6.5 billion, losing a few oxygen wasters to suicide doesn't hurt my feelings.This isn't some act between consenting adults that I don't agree with, it's one person potentially destroying the life and mental stability of a child. Treating them as only victims of their environment is a disgrace.

@Ramez: You're missing my point. They aren't thinking about doing something illegal in a fleeting manner. They are actually in the comission of that crime. It's the difference between you thinking that you want to kill me because I'm a jackass, and you snatching a gun off the table in front of me to shoot me only to find out that I loaded it with blanks. When you swung the gun to bear at my chest and pulled the trigger you had every intention and full knowledge you were about to murder me. How is going to the house of a child with full intention to have sex with that child (and then admit it on camera no less!) any different?
