arstechnica.com — 53-year-old Lyndal Harrington blogged some nasty things about Anna Nicole Smith's mother, resulting in a defamation lawsuit. The court ordered her to turn over her computer for evidence; after failing to do so, Harrington was thrown in jail. The case highlights the delicacies of today's blogging world, as people are sued for voicing their opinions.

Sure people have a right to sue over defamation. But does that give them license to acquire your entire computer?I say no. If the statements made were untrue there are other ways to prove it. I mean, what would gaining access to the computer do regarding defamation?

Indeed. Anna nicole smiths mother is rotten whore and has nothing better to do than sue bloggers. Wake up and join the now, loser.

This is NOT what happened in this case. The blogger did not refuse to turn over the computer; she claimed it had been stolen. The cops said they didn't believe her, and on that mere BELIEF, she was was jailed. The onus is clearly on the cops, to prove that she really had staged it — guilty until proven innocent, right?
