lxer.com — In February 2003, the program "Open Source and Open Source Software (OSSOS) for the Dutch government" started, funded by the Dutch government. One of the main tasks was to make the government independent from single software suppliers, among which are Microsoft and SAP. After three years, the effort starts bearing fruit.

@JQP123Vista enables all kinds of hidden software to run on your machine. The "NSAKEY" did, in fact, compromise crypto security in existing Microsoft OSs.The deed is already done.

@lopla "It truly is the end of days for Microsoft".Yes, with lackluster acceptance in the open market and having to resort to government mandates to help promote their products, I'd say the "end of days" is a distinct possibility.

Governments don't care being 'owned' by MS, as long as we pay our taxes and don't complain. So MS doesn't own the citizens throughout the world, it DOES own governments. Therefore it is citizen organizations, such as the OSOSS in the Netherlands, that fight the monopoly battle. It took a long time before these cities agreed (Amsterdam first investigates open source, costs: ~600.000 euro), and since Holland is one of the most democratic countries, don't expect all governments shifting to open source. Germany and France do shift btw.

I'm planning to start a program "Open and Open Source and Open Source Software and Open Source Software Systems and Open Source Software Systems Solutions" (OSSSSOSSSOSSOSO). I got a sizeable grant from the Society for the Promotion of Promoting Redundant Acronyms ;-)
