divinecaroline.com — Going green inherently saves money by using less, we save more, but some big-ticket items can cost a lot. I?d love to install solar panels on my roof or a wind turbine in my backyard so I?d never have to see another PG&E bill again, but the reality is that I simply can?t afford either of those.

If it's green, that's just obscene (and you're probably ill).

But don't give up on bigger ticket things. Many States offer incentives and grants to support installing clean tech. I got $2000 from Maryland to help install a solar hot water system on my house - it covered a fifth of the cost. It's free money (not a loan) and once it's installed, it's free energy. I tell my friends if they need to replace a hot water tank anyway, go solar. Now when it's 99 degrees and muggy I don't complain, I just think of all the free hot water I'm getting.
