eurekalert.org— A researcher at the University of Missouri-Columbia has found that girls who talk very extensively about their problems with friends are likely to become more anxious and depressed.

Wow. I can not believe the level of emotional immaturity you people are showing. "oh, he has feelings, how emo. Ha ha, i'm so clever and cool."What an ADULT does is face the realities of their life and addresses both the bad AND the good. The adult does not shove the problems to the back of their mind and goes about their merry way, blissfully ignorant. You people are no better than petulant children, whining at the person who is telling you that it is not OK to be irresponsible.GROW THE f**k UP.Oh, and to the guy who said that most of us in the USA don't have real problems, do you live IN A f**kING HOLE?? There's a war going on, over 3000 Americans are already DEAD because of it. The Dollar is at an all-time RECORD LOW vs. the Euro, and college tuition is skyrocketing by the year. If you think you don't have problems, you are a sadly misinformed ignoramus. The FACT is that there are always unpleasantries to life. This is NOT cause for concern, as that is just part of life. DEAL WITH IT.Or, bury this comment, bury your head in the sand, and DO NOT come crying to me when the s**t hits the fan. Why are we a nation of six-year olds?
You're right, there is a stretch between "Girls who complain about their problems at greater risk of developing anxiety and depression" and "Tell Girls to Shut Up, It's Good for Them".Note, however, that a sentence in the article makes a stronger statement than the original title:"[G]irls who talk very extensively about their problems with friends are likely to become more anxious and depressed."It says "become." The article intends to communicate that there is causality between co-ruminating and being more anxious and depressed. That seems totally backward, so it requires an explanation. However, there is no mention of what allowed the researchers to draw such a conclusion. Two possibilities:- The author of the article didn't understand anything about the study.- The researchers are practicing fraudulent science and they fooled the author, as part of a PR move to raise some money.
I'd like to see who's publishing this study, please. Some boys would do better shutting their traps as well- especially if they have nothing good to say.
