@bovox -Your arguments just don't make logical sense to me. First off, as I said, the video and article conflict on the story, whether or not he actually chased the man down the road. The article seems to indicate that he did. The video says the man just ran down the street. With this conflicting, we can't be certain what happened.Second, even if he did chase him down the street, there is no sure way to know his motive. Maybe he was thinking he was going to kill the guy. Personally, I think that if he did chase the guy down the street, it was only to frighten him away and make sure he didn't come back. He stabbed the guy in the house, and if he did chase him, that's ALL he did. You want to convict the kid because he may have had a thought, regardless of the fact that he didn't take action on it. That doesn't work in any reasonable court of law. If I'm playing baseball and I hold the bat and swing it at the pitcher a few times before he throws, does that mean I want to whack the pitcher with the bat and should be locked away for assault?Okay, I've made my point and I'm done with this argument. If you can't see reason after this and fall back on your same tired, faulty argument again, don't expect another reply.
Mudcrutch is right. If they don't bring any guns, like most don't, then you don't want something lethal that they can use to kill you. You overestimate your ability. Burglars break into homes all the time so they are used to the environment and can expect people show up out nowhere. You on the other hand, who never experience burglary, will most likely be scared s**tless. You will most likely miss with whatever gun you are using... (Ask a veteran about his first gunfight and see how many precision shots he shot at the enemy that actually hit). If a burglar gets shot at, he will shoot back since you leave him no choice. Also, if you keep a lot of guns at home, they might find a gun before they find you. Burglars wants to take your stuff and leave as quickly and quiet as possible, they don't want any shots fired, especially not to kill. The sentence will be sooo much worse. (He would be let out on bail if he had shot the kid instead). They are thieves not murderers.
US laws are more protective to the individuals right to protect himself. You seem to have more right to protect yourself using force in your own house. It depends on the state how much force you can use.I think most European countries have the rule that you may only use as much force as the situation demands. For example, if there is break-in you cannot kill the intruder, only use enough force to prevent the intruder to escape until the police comes. However, if the intruder is trying to kill you then it is another story. It is both good and bad, for both ways. In Europe most people don't have guns at home. So the intruder doesn't need to bring weapons, which means no one gets killed. On the other hand, in the US you have more ability to defend yourself if you want. I don't think this a "liberal/republican" issue...
@Nimsim & @SharkyTech - Sorry, but when dealing with others who think about stealing before they act, I believe it's completely fair to say that they've made the choice to take on the consequences of their actions. Then the VICTIM is placed in a situation where he must make an instinctive decision based on his situation. Far too often are innocent victims killed when they choose to not 'Shoot first and ask questions later'.
wow cant believe that one-we had a guy here shot somebody breaking in to his neighbors house and was talked through it by 911-sending this to friendswww.home-buisness-dot.com
