dailymail.co.uk — Pregnant teenagers are taking up smoking in the hope of having smaller babies so that childbirth is less painful, a Government minister warned. Labour's public health minister Caroline Flint made the extraordinary claim after discussions with health professionals and young mothers.

I read this story on the BBC's site yesterday, which is generally a whole lot more objective than the Daily Mail, which is a terrible paper. It basically had a headline similar to this, but reading the article said the following,"Ms Flint told the meeting she had heard about the issue anecdotally from health professionals, and from young women she had met."So it is a case of possibly the crappest newspaper in the UK, the Daily mail taking evidence from a Mrs Flint, a govenrment minister (also a particularly bad source of objective information), giving anecdotal evidence.I imagine that perhaps two people have ever thought that, but the crappy newspapers in this country go for the shock headline evry time, over objective journalism.

But, using protection is a sin. /sarcasmApparently, in this day and age, getting knocked up is less looked down upon than having premarital sex without getting pregnant.

My main surprise is that this is news. It's not really news, but a reminder of what has been going on for years. Teens know that smoking causes babies to be smaller, and many who continue to smoke through pregnancy are doing so completely intentionally. I have first hand experience with this issue on a regular basis.

There are some really stupid people in the world. I wonder if it ever occurs to people who do this to ask - Why is the baby 7oz less - what is the baby 'missing' that makes up the 7oz?

macwierdoUsing rocks as an analogy is possibly one of the worst argument presentations I have ever seen.
