A friend sent me an email about this! I was totally shocked as he was to learn about this, and from an email instead of from OUR NATIONAL NEWS MEDIA !!!! And moreover this statue was completed and deticated SEPT. 11, 2006 !!I'M STILL ALMOST IN DISBELIEF !! Everyone I have talked to did not know about this !!!If this is some kind of internet hoax, it's the best one I've ever seen!If it's the truth, it's the news media's best kept secret,.... til now !! While I agree with much of what you say, and I share the general annoyance with the French, it's not like Wilson (despite what ALL public school history books claim) was all that great of a President. He began the long road to the ruin of the dollar, which the French accelerated because of the irresponsible spending on Vietnam, but in the end it was Tricky, not the French, who closed the gold window. And no, we should have never gotten involved in a dumb war in Vietnam. But we would not have, absent an entity like the Federal Reserve to print fake "money" to finance such boondoggles and allow them to become self-funding. Our Founding Fathers knew that fake "money" allows the financing of much military mischief. Like Ike, they wanted us to beware the power of a "military industrial complex," even though they would not have phrased it quite that way. Jefferson's warnings about banks were clear, even if only Jackson heeded them in the end (but the LA Purchase was a hell of a deal!).

While that's technically true, it's also true that ethnic Russians basically ran most of the USSR's machinery of the state. Americans think of them as a bunch of Gorbachevs & Putins, but it's not all a bad thing. Ever since Olga Korbut, I've happily -- if hopelessly -- lusted after their gymnasts, which makes it very hard to want to nuke them.
