money.cnn.com — US taxpayers may be on the hook for one of the biggest frauds in US history. Taxpayers are mad as hell about the US government's decision to bail out Wall St with $700 Billion US dollars leaving the taxpayer on the hook. Reminds me of the movie Network 1976 with everyone screaming "I'm Mad As Hell And I'm Not Going to Take This Anymore".

ISV? Independent software vendor?Good it seems as if you quickly looked it up and found out that derivatives are a form of leverage. That is not the issue genius. The sheer fact that it is used and if the derivatives fail, we will get sucked right back into a depression.Because of fluctuating values of products and commodities over time I highly doubt that there is a single non fluctuating value that people agree on. That's why derivatives are used."Derivatives In the view of Marriner S. Eccles, U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman from November, 1934 to February, 1948, too high a level of debt was one of the primary causes of the 1920s-30s Great Depression."

The US Government is not even responsible for these bailouts!!! The Treasury is acting on its own WITHOUT ANY INTERVENTION BY CONGRESS!!! This is atrocious and is yet another reason why our economy is completely boned.

TurnipFarm,I would like to believe that a complete collapse of our current economic system would result in the uprising of the little man, the current middle class. I'd like to believe that a true communist system (not the communism we see today, but communism as it was intended to function) would rise and people would work together as a unified group to achieve peace, harmony, and equality for all. Yet, the rational, albeit more negative, side of my cannot believe in these idealistic results.Widespread destruction makes people seek out strength. In times of chaos, people look for guidance and leadership. People will seek out stability at the expense of their freedom. I feel that a second great depression, that a collapse of our economic system as we know it, will lead to a society united under a single party. However, I believe this party will be one founded upon fear. A system based even more strongly on lies and military strength than the system which exists today. While I hope for a solution which would bring my family, and those like us, up the level of the elite 2% (rather than bringing everyone down to us), I know that hope alone will not lead to success. Perhaps it is a result of ignorance or fear that I am opposed to your idea, but I feel that the evil you know is better than the one you don't. While something much better may rise up to replace our current system, I feel that it is far more likely a more sinister system will arise. At this point, I'd rather take my chances preserving an evil I'm already quite familiar with. At least these bailouts allow for some level of certainty in the future, and, like it or not, certainty is a form of stability. I also do apologize if I was at all insulting in my previous post. The loss of my home happened quite recently and before I reached this thread I read many which referred to people who have faced foreclosure as "idiots" and the like. Needless to say, I was already quite bitter before reading your post. I don't agree 100% with the bailouts, but I also am not at all comfortable with the idea of doing nothing. Hopefully, some form of happy median, a golden road of economics, will emerge soon. Until then, I'll probably just remain bitter.

@talmandA very condescending comment, indeed. You clearly have no passion for politics and no understanding of how the rest of the world's developed nations value their social programs over and above purely capitalistic concerns (unlike the US Government's obsession with money, power and vested interests). You incorrectly use the word 'hatred' to describe my opposition to the status quo and my concern for the plight of the average American. The average American would be very happy to pay more taxes if that guaranteed adequate free health care, a comfortable retirement and a fully-funded education system - and I suspect that, were it not for the corporate bailouts, the Iraq war and pressure from Washington Lobbyists, likely our government could have provided these basic necessities to its citizens with no need for any tax hikes.

Yea we'll be upset for about 2 minutes until we realize we better get back on that financial treadmill most American's have put themselves on. We don't have time to protest or make a change anymore,we need to get a bigger, better more expensive something then the next guy. If we don't start standing up and marching, boycotting, and protesting this great country is going to slip right out from under us. http://www.airtechnology.comhttp://www.squidoo.com/lifePathUnlimitedSuccesshttp://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9qwz9_lifepath-u ...
