latimes.com — Is this the end of Two Buck Chuck? A proposal to raise the state tax on wine to a level more than six times higher to help close California's giant budget deficit would kill the $1.99 price for Charles Shaw wine, said Fred Franzia, who created the famous label sold by the Trader Joe's grocery chain.

"It is ludicrous to put an extra tax on a home-grown product," Franzia said. "Wine is California's signature product, and if we do it, every other state is going to do it too."Agreed! And, it will be higher in states who do not have a local wine industry to protect. This will make CA wine less competitive with other beverages, reduce sales, cause unemployment, and reduce tax revenues since there will be less sales, both locally and out of state.Just what you would expect from a Republican Governor who understands economics about as well as he understands the impact of illegal immigration and anchor babies on the State's economy!Time for another recall! This time let's include the legislature and the supreme court, and get it right! Practice makes perfect!
