Most small business owners are not wealthy. Wealthy people own businesses with no employees so they can minimize personal liability, and through which they funnel income into their other businesses in the Camen Islands or similar tax shelters. What's humorous is that some people think we are supposed to worship the wealthy as though they are benevolent gifts from god, responsible for everything we hold dear in life. I have much more respect for the hard-working employees and owners of businesses that actually make good products and are good economic citizens.
What is LEGAL and what is ETHICAL are two different things. Is it LEGAL to evade state tax codes? Because of this loophole, yes. Is it LEGAL for the state to of Texas to murder inmates sentenced to the death penalty? Yes.But is it right? Is it ethical? Profit maximization is a fine strategy for all business, but ethical decision-making is essential for long-term success. As long as the individual pays a low price, no one cares that they're helping support a sexist, racist, overtly evil organization. I urge everyone to study Wal-Mart's practices in detail. After a case study in college I haven't shopped there since. Not for any moral reasons - but because by shopping I realized I was damaging my local economy.
All of those people involved in tax preparation can go get a job that actually increases the wealth of the country, rather than just being de facto government employees performing administrative functions. The economy would grow so fast the demand for accountants would go through the roof.
idk why you're getting dugg down. I am in no way a fan of Wal-Mart and its practices but kudos to them if they can work the system. Like you said, they prolly aren't the first company to know about this.

If you fix the holes you can make up for it by lowering everyone's rate.

Because that's how arguments work, everyone else is wrong unless they do your fact-checking for you./s

A one-day gain does not a trend make. Let's talk again a year from now.

No, it's not. The Vice President said it best: it's your patriotic duty to pay your taxes.http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/09/18/ ...

This is what happens when people condone fraud. Not paying your taxes is theft, pure and simple.

Geithner paid his taxes. As did Charlie Rangel. What did Barney Frank do?
