cbsnews.com — Call it a modern-day girl's night out. Dana Shafman throws "Taser parties" to try to sell the weapons to women -- civilian women. The stun-gun-type weapons have proven controversial, even in the hands of law enforcement officers, but Shafman, who heads ShieldHer.net, says it's time they were sold to everyone.

It's not that women are acquiring weapons its that tasers are not treated like the dangerous weapons they really are.

It's better than getting shot with a .45 ... those exit wounds are nasty blue zombie.... Have you ever seen someone shot with a weapon like that? No you haven't , you sit there behind your little computer and think about your little euphoric, everyone smokes weed the world is great state of mind... Why don't you take your mom to a not so nice little area of town and see what kind of scum of the earth materializes? haha... You're probably mad because you used to bully some kid until he punched you in the face and then tried to play the victim once you got embarassed? hmmm.... God forbid someone in self defense uses a weapon designed not to kill innocent people lol.... If you get that close to a woman and get tasered, I'm 99% sure she was probably your ex wife or a stranger that you were stalking !!! lol.... Just don't see gramps with his pace- maker cat callin a girl in his motorized wheel chair.... haha

yeah, but the perception is the problem. A woman.. hell, anyone, who has a gun in their bag for protection, knows it can kill, so they only pull it out as a last resort, when their life is on the line. As the taser is seen as non-lethal, like pepper-spray, I can see people reaching for it in rage, and you can bet it will happen. However, it should only take a couple of "Man dies after being tased over 'gravy is cold' comment" before this kind of thing is banned.

He sounds funny. As in a joke, which you clearly can't understand. (and, please, no "this isn't a laughing matter", you people don't get to choose what other people can laugh to.)

I would think a Taser would be more useful to a rapist than someone trying to avoid being raped.

That's exactly why when you go through a gun training course they teach you NOT to put your gun or taser in your purse. A weapon should be in its holster, in plain sight, at all times. If you are being mugged, the perp isn't going to wait while you remove the gun from your purse. He's going to point a gun/knife at you and say, "hand it over" and there goes your legally obtained gun into the hands of a criminal. NEVER put your weapon in your purse. This is common sense.
