sfgate.com— A blind UC Berkeley student is suing Target Corp., saying the retailer is violating the civil rights of those who cannot see because its Web site is inaccessible to them.

Why does a private company have to accommodate everyone? Target is not a monopoly, he can take his money elsewhere. Regardless of the law, this is a frivolous lawsuit and if the law does indeed applies, I hope it gets appealed.
All my sites are accesable to the visually impared and alternative devices. It's not that bloody hard, and it generally improves the usablity of the site, too. People need to quit whining and grow a f**ken soul. I bet every single one of the people here that are whining about this would quickly change their tune if they ever lost their eye-sight.
You are very confused. He is not suing them because he cant see. He suing them because the web site isn't accessible to visually impaired people. He isn't asking Target to give him sight. He is just asking that they follow some coding standards so the site is accessible. Other companies and governments are already doing this and there are laws covering this issue. What's their problem that they cant(and wont) comply with the standards and laws. The coding standards are clearly documented so there is no excuse for any website developers not to comply.
now there is a comment that indicates an absolutely dreadful excuse for a human being. I bet you were the school yard bully as a kid. I can just imagine that your family is really proud of spawning something like you.
That's a pretty amazing display of ignorance. You think that blind people cant turn the computer on? I have a good friend that is completely blind due to a car accident 20 years ago. He could live on disability but he chooses to work instead. He travels by muni,BART and bus every day to go to work. He works as a computer instructor for blind people. He not only teaches them how to use the internet but also how to use most popular microsoft software. He is also an adviser for a japanese company that makes equipment for people that are visually impaired. I admire him for what he accomplishes despite the obstacles. Many blind people are computer literate. Some graduate from college and some work different kinds of jobs. I dont know any blind people that are voluntarily blind. Its terrible to lose your sight. You should hope it does not happen to you.
No kidding - I am so darn tired of all this suing crap. It seems that every ridiculous law suit out there is being heard but God help us if we have something legitimate to seek restitution for! These attorney's should be embarrassed to even take a case like this on.I know . . . I think I'll sue this guy for offending me that he sued Target.

The target site is "completely unusable" to blind users due to problems that can be fixed in 10 minutes. See my earlier comment.
